Welcome to Southwest Metro Animal Rescue

Who We Are

Southwest Metro Animal Rescue and Adoption Society is a non-profit organization committed to the rescue of abandoned, abused and stray domestic animals.

We believe the animal-human bond is strengthened through education of the public on the humane treatment of animals, pet population control and support for animal protection laws.

We are an all-volunteer non-profit organization. We do not have any paid staff and receive no government funding. Our founding members have over 35 years combined experience in the animal rescue field. We have established federal tax-exempt status as a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization.

Southwest Metro Animal Rescue does not operate a shelter building, and is a volunteer foster home-based organization that hosts regular scheduled monthly Pet Adoption Days. Our procedure is to evaluate the animal, provide necessary medical care (including spay/neuter), place in a caring foster home, and finally find a suitable forever home for each pet. We rely on donations of food and supplies to care for the pets. We maintain a no-kill policy except in cases when euthanasia is deemed the only viable, reasonable and humane option.

No Kill Walk for the Animals

alt

The purpose of this event is to highlight the extraordinary efforts made by hundreds of no-kill rescues and shelters to reduce unnecessary euthanasia of adoptable animals.

The 3rd Annual No-Kill Walk for the Animals (NKWFTA) will kick off on Saturday, May 4th, 2013 at 9 a.m. at International Bazaar at MN State Fair Grounds, St. Paul, Minnesota.

Event starts at 9am and will wrap up between 1-2pm. Open to the public, rain or shine! Goal this year is to raise $50,000!

This year, roughly four million dogs and cats—and countless other animals—will be put to death in our Nation’s Animal Shelters. Their only ‘crime’ is that they have no human address. Other adoptable animals may be sick or injured, and they could be saved with very little effort. But unfortunately, they too will be killed. But there is hope. “If every animal shelter in the United States embraced the No Kill philosophy and the programs and services that make it possible, we would save nearly four million dogs and cats who are scheduled to die in shelters this year, and the year after that. It is not an impossible dream.” -- No Kill Advocacy Center

The walk begins at the International Bazaar where many Minnesota no kill rescues, shelters, and related vendors will have information about their groups and some of their adoptable animals available to meet. They are soliciting walk pledges to help fund their rescue efforts as most have very small budgets and are often in the red due to expenses such as veterinary care and animal food and supplies.

Thousands of Minnesota animals are saved each year because dedicated volunteers who run no-kill rescues and shelters take in dogs and cats who would otherwise be euthanized. They provide veterinary care, spay and neuter all animals prior to adoption, socialize animals in dedicated foster homes, and screen adopters to ensure that each animal finds a safe and loving “furever” home. The public and all no kill rescues and shelters are invited to participate in this event.
